MAKĀN (مكان — “place”) is RIŽIK’s exploration of the relationship between sound and place.
Rather than bringing a predetermined performance into an environment, RIŽIK begins with the environment itself — responding to its architecture, artwork, acoustics, history, landscape, movement, and atmosphere.
The result is a composition created not simply for a place, but in dialogue with it.
The space is not a backdrop. It is part of the score.
EVERY PLACE ASKS SOMETHING DIFFERENT.
A gallery does not sound like a desert.
A piece of architecture does not sound like a film.
A room at midnight does not sound like the same room at sunrise.
MAKĀN begins by listening.
RIŽIK studies the environment and the ideas within it, developing a musical language in response. Acoustic piano, electronics, percussion, field sound, silence, and improvisation become materials rather than requirements.
The instrumentation changes. The composition changes. The performance changes.
Because the place changes.

FROM PLACE TO SCORE
01 — LISTEN
The work begins with the environment — its story, intention, architecture, acoustics and emotional character.
02 — RESPOND
RIŽIK develops a musical language specific to the place, drawing from electronic and acoustic instrumentation, environmental sound and composition.
03 — INHABIT
The work is adapted to the physical environment itself. Where the audience stands, how sound travels and how people move through the space become part of the composition.
04 — PERFORM
The score is realized live, retaining enough openness for the environment and moment to continue influencing the music.
LIVE ELECTRONIC COMPOSITION
PIANO + ELECTRONICS
PIANO + PLACE
RESONANT + IMMERSIVE
THE INSTRUMENTATION FOLLOWS THE PLACE
MAKĀN has no fixed configuration.
Each work is developed in response to its environment and may incorporate acoustic piano, synthesizers, percussion, electronic processing, field recordings, resonant instruments, environmental sound, or silence.
Duration, instrumentation, spatial configuration, and performance format are developed specifically for each commission.
The place determines the form.
